Chemistry (or something)

Did you know that you can melt sugar? And that it turns into caramel?


We made homemade ice cream tonight, salted caramel ice cream (sorry Anne Marie, don't hate me, at least I couldn't go to Jim's Deli), and the directions included melting 1 1/2 cups sugar in a saucepan on the stove. If you've never done this, go try it; it was so cool to watch the sugar melt and turn dark. And if you add a little cream you can make some great caramel sauce.


I don't know if that's how you actually make caramel sauce, but that's certainly what it tasted like when Mel let me lick the bowl.
